I'm more surprised that you're reading my blog than you are because I'm not writing it for you. I'm writing it for me. I've written four books. Who did I write them for? My kids? People I think need my insights? Fellow travelers through life? Fame? Fortune? Bucket List? My critics?
None of these.
I wrote them because I wanted to write them for myself. Of course, there was a bit of proving I could do it aspect. Of course, I dedicated the first book to my kids. Of course, I thanked my wife. And Mom. But I wrote the books just like I'm writing my blog for myself hoping that it inspires you to be and grow like I'm inspired to be and share what I've learned and how I'm developing.
I don't know what you're doing today. But hopefully, it's growing.
The Red Sox are in the World Series. That's growth! I grew vicariously through them last night. 2018 is going to be the best WS for a long time.
Seriously, though. Whatever you do today it had better involve something you are doing because you want to do it; it had better involve someone you want to do it for; it had better include serving someone that deserves your effort. You may think it sounds arrogant or something to say "It's about me," but that's your problem. Because I want to warn you now for the last time if you never read my blog again: if a confident you are not at the center of whatever you're involved in, you will not be successful. You might get by. You might even get by spectacularly (i.e., make top dollar, get the best promotion, reward, etc.), but you will not be successful. Someday you'll wake up and regretfully say, "Why?" I don't want your reflections to get there. Success is a product of doing anything you enjoy and accepting the consequences of helping others!
Oops! Am I preaching (...helping others)?
Is Life not all about me?
My friends, there are rules. Anarchy is a mere philosophy for a reason. Like it or not, life is not an accident. You're here for a reason. It's your job to discover the particulars and help others during your lifetime. At some point, you will have to accept that there is a structure that governs your life. A structure not by the hands of man, or invented by society, but from the fantastic mind of The Super. You can do anything you want – and to be genuinely happy you must – as long as you are not breaking the law and you're finding a way to help others doing it. If you do, you will appreciate hearing your name attached to it.
